Beasts & Bumpkins

BEASTS & BUMPKINS is a fantasy adventure, based upon current locales and politics of Door County, WI. The story follows Margie and Eliza, two girls from Algoma, WI, who see an advertisement in the Peninsula Pulse for a new wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is accepting donations of specimens from the public. The girls, who are collectors of rare orchids and dragonflies, decide to journey to Rock Island, WI to donate some of their prize organisms. Along the way, they run into a karst rock spirit, Cheetee, who distracts and torments them with spook lights, apparitions of the nearby CAFO-teria, a fish-boil-turned-brawl, and more!

BEASTS & BUMPKINS is performed in a cantastoria style with live narration and simple chemistry tricks. The imagery is drafted on a long scroll which is presented via opaque projector.

Presented at the Jabberwock Gallery in Algoma, WI (Sept. 2017) and the Full Moon Puppet Show at Open Eye Figure Theater in Minneapolis (Oct. 2017). Duration: 15 minutes.
